Many people rush to buy crypto right after registering on Binance, only to find that various features are locked or to regret it later when security issues arise. Registration is just the first step — the settings that follow are what really matter. Open the Binance official website or the official Binance app right now, and follow this article step by step to get everything properly configured. If you are on an iPhone and have not installed the app yet, start with the iOS installation guide.

Must-Do Security Settings

Account security is the single most important thing. Complete all of the following settings before you even think about buying any crypto:

Bind your phone number: Go to "Security Settings" and add your phone number. Enter the number, receive a verification SMS, and input the code to complete the binding. Once bound, every login and critical action will require an SMS verification code, adding an extra layer of protection.

Enable Google Authenticator: This is the most recommended two-factor authentication (2FA) method. First, download the Google Authenticator app on your phone. Then, in Binance security settings, select "Enable Google Verification," scan the QR code with Google Authenticator, and enter the displayed 6-digit code to activate it. From then on, every login requires a Google Authenticator code. Critical reminder: always back up the secret key — if your phone is lost or replaced, this key is the only way to restore access.

Set up your anti-phishing code: In security settings, find "Anti-Phishing Code" and create a unique word or number combination that only you know. After setting it up, every official email from Binance will include this code. If you receive an email claiming to be from Binance but without your anti-phishing code, it is a phishing attempt — delete it immediately.

Set a fund password: Certain operations like withdrawals require an additional fund password. Make it different from your login password for an extra layer of security.

Device management: Regularly check "Device Management" to see if any unfamiliar devices have logged into your account. If you spot a suspicious device, remove it immediately and change your password.

Basic Feature Setup

Complete identity verification (KYC): Go to the "Identity Verification" page, select your nationality, then upload photos of both sides of your ID card and complete facial recognition. The whole process takes about 5 minutes, and approval is usually fast. After completing KYC, you unlock C2C trading, higher withdrawal limits, and other features.

Link payment methods: If you plan to use C2C trading to buy crypto, you need to add payment methods first. Go to the C2C section, tap "P2P Payment Methods," and add your bank card, Alipay, or WeChat. It is best to link at least two options for flexibility. When linking, make sure the name on the payment account matches the name on your Binance KYC verification exactly.

Set a nickname: During C2C trading, the other party's merchant will see your nickname. Use a normal, neutral nickname — unusual names may deter some merchants from trading with you.

Notification settings: In the app settings, manage your push notifications. Enable "Security Alerts" and "Transaction Notifications" while turning off unnecessary marketing pushes.

Often Overlooked but Important Settings

Withdrawal whitelist: When enabled, you can only withdraw crypto to addresses in the whitelist. Even if your account is compromised, the attacker cannot transfer your assets to their own address. While adding new addresses requires an extra step each time, this feature can genuinely save your funds.

Login IP restrictions: You can restrict your account to allow logins only from specific regions. If you only use Binance domestically, limit access to your country's IP addresses.

Email confirmation for withdrawals: Enable this so every withdrawal requires email confirmation — yet another layer of security.

Change passwords regularly: Update your login password every three months. Use a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters, with a length of at least 12 characters.

Once you have completed all these settings, your Binance account security will be extremely robust. Although the setup process takes some effort, investing half an hour now can help you avoid many potential risks down the line. In the crypto world, security always comes first.
