Beyond traditional earn products, Binance also offers staking services. Staking is a crypto-native way to earn — lock your coins for a period to help blockchain networks operate, and receive rewards in return. Sounds complex? On Binance, it is actually very simple. Log into the Binance official website or the official Binance app to participate. iPhone users see the iOS installation guide.
What Is Staking?
In plain terms: many blockchain networks (Ethereum, Solana, Cardano, etc.) need people to deposit coins into the network to help validate transactions and maintain security. In return, stakers receive newly minted tokens as rewards.
It is similar to depositing money in a bank — the bank uses your money to make loans and pays you interest. With staking, the "bank" is the blockchain network and the "interest" is newly created cryptocurrency.
Staking directly on a blockchain has technical barriers (ETH staking requires 32 ETH minimum, worth hundreds of thousands of dollars). On Binance, there is no minimum amount and the process is as simple as subscribing to a savings product.
What Can You Stake on Binance?
ETH Staking (WBETH): ~3-5% APR. Deposit ETH and receive equivalent WBETH tokens. WBETH is tradable, so liquidity is easy. Great for long-term ETH holders.
SOL Staking: ~6-8% APR. Typically shorter lock periods. Solana's ecosystem has been thriving, and staking rewards are solid.
BNB Staking: ~1-3% APR. Lower yield, but BNB holders already benefit from various Binance ecosystem activities. Staking BNB does not prevent Launchpool participation.
Other PoS tokens: ADA, DOT, ATOM, AVAX and more are supported, with yields ranging from 2% to 15%.
ETH Staking Tutorial
Using the most popular ETH staking as an example:
Step 1: Navigate to ETH staking — App: Earn > ETH Staking, or search "ETH Staking"
Step 2: Enter staking amount — Enter how much ETH you want to stake. There is no minimum — even 0.01 ETH works.
Step 3: Understand the token you receive — After staking ETH, you receive WBETH (Wrapped Beacon ETH) representing your staked ETH plus accumulated rewards. Over time, WBETH's value slightly exceeds ETH because it includes accrued earnings.
Step 4: Confirm — Verify and complete staking. Your ETH starts earning immediately.
Redemption options: You can swap WBETH back to ETH anytime — sell WBETH on Binance for USDT or ETH, or use the redemption feature to convert back (may require a waiting period).
Calculating Staking Returns
Staking yields are typically expressed as APR. Example: Stake 10 ETH at 4% APR. Annual yield: 0.4 ETH. If ETH is priced at $3,500, that is approximately $1,400/year.
Important: Staking rewards are denominated in the staked crypto, not fiat. If ETH price drops, your ETH quantity increases but total fiat value may decrease.
Staking Risks
Price decline risk: Staking earns crypto interest, but if the coin price drops significantly, the interest may not offset the decline.
Liquidity risk: Some staking products have lock periods. Binance's WBETH solution addresses this since WBETH is always tradable.
Smart contract risk: Staking involves smart contracts. While major networks have been extensively audited, theoretical vulnerability risks exist.
Recommendations: Only stake coins you plan to hold long-term. Keep some in your spot account for emergencies. Prioritize mainstream coins (ETH, SOL, BNB) for lower risk. Treat staking rewards as a bonus, not a primary income source.
Staking is an excellent tool for crypto investors. If you are already planning to hold a coin long-term, stake it for additional yield. Better than letting it sit idle — time really is money.
